Scotty, amazing content, big fan from eastern Europe I watch all your videos, keep it up!
I'm thinking about buying a pretty new Toyota Corolla. In my budget, (around 25k Euros), my options are used (max 75k km) Toyota Corollas from late 2019.
I would love to have one with the 2.0L HSD 180hp drive, but I'm afraid it is not as reliable as the historically proven 1.8L.
Now, I know your opinion about hybrids, as being a bit less reliable on the long run, but here in Europe, I can't find any Corolla, with either the 1.8 nor the 2.0 without the HSD drivetrain. They pretty much sell only the HSD in either 1.8L or 2.0L.
So basically, wanting to have a bit more powerful drivetrain, I would chose the 2.0L HSD version over the 1.8L HSD mainly because of the 180hp vs 120hp difference.
Is it a wise decision? Main concern : Is the 2.0L an oil burner or less reliable on the long run than the 1.8L?
Thank you in advance for your time and answer!
In 2019 new generations of Toyota models came out and new engines replaced old ones. New engines are mainly hybrids and turbocharged petrols, naturally aspirated are only 3-cylinder ones in Europe. Perhaps @dan has more info about their reliability.

It’s not “a bit”.
A hybrid will have its batteries fail at 10-15 years of age, a petrol can will keep on going.
Is the 2.0L an oil burner
Not as far as I know, the EGR system has its issues and water does get into the crankcase.
less reliable on the long run than the 1.8L?
Yes, nothing can beat the 1.8L 2ZR-FXE.
How much less reliable? Only time will tell.
Is it a wise decision?
I do not think so.
Check the efficiency of the 2.0 hybrid - I herd bad things about it.
The 1.8L hybrid should be a lot better, it’s still not up with the best in class - but unlike them it is reliable.
