I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring Lxi convertible with the 2.7 Liter V6. My car has 58000 miles and has trouble accelerating while in drive. It will accelerate up to 3000 RPMs very easily but has trouble getting to 4000 RPMs. The car did sit for a while and was run on bad gas. I do not know if the car's fuel filter is clocked or the fuel injectors are clocked, but that is my guess. There are no check engine codes and the car idles at about 750 RPMs. It would be nice to have someone give me some suggestions before getting the car checked out by a professional mechanic.
58k miles not 580k!
Probably the longest lasting Sebring I have ever seen. Might even have compression issues... maybe do a compression test and see where its at and if the compression is good start looking at the fuel system. Not sure if you added too many zeros but 580k is a lot for any car. Might be time for a new one.
@cjbman
58k miles. I added too many zeros. It sat for a couple of years in the Florida sun. I have had it for going on 2 years.
Could possibly be the fuel pump since the car sat and ran on that old gas. Check the fuel pressure after the car is warm.
@cjbman
If it was the fuel pump, wouldn't the car not start?
Not always. Sometimes it just gets gummed up or doesn't work at full speed after wear.
Right now I am getting about 19 mpg driving in the city.
