[Solved] 2002 ES300 no crank no start

Hello

I bought an old 2002 Lexus ES300. I replaced new battery and new alternator. It started good and I drove it to a gas station, filled it up with unleaded 87 and head home. I stopped at the red light, the car just completely shut off by itself...I tried to start again but no click, no other light except the check engine light. The battery is fine because head lights are bright and internal lights are working...Try to hook up the OBD but the OBD cannot scan...I think because no power or something...Any ideas?

Thank you for your help

Tuan

Clarification: Mileage on the vehicle?

If it's blowing a 120 amp fuse that is a MAJOR short circuit! I'd check along the length of your positive cable to start with, make sure that after 20 years the insulation is not falling apart and shorting the cable out against the chassis.

Thank you for the suggestion. i have watched all that but I have no console light at all except the open door and check engine lights...I just checked the related fuses (17, 20, 23) and relay (R12 and R17) . In the fuse box under driver side console, I checked fuses 13, 17 except the R5 on the back of the fuse box because it is very hard to get to...could it be my ignition switch? When I insert hte key and turn to on position, I can hear the door bell ding sound but nothing else...anymore idea?

Thank you

Fuel pump? Perhaps wiring? Or computer itself. Had you had your car checked before you bought it?

no. I bought it from a family member. I know that it was the bad alternator that cause the battery to drain, therefore, no power. Once I replaced alternator and new battery...it was running

Check the ignition switch.

thank you! Checking. Will report the outcome.

It was a blown 120A main fuse. I replaced it but at the moment I hooked the positive side, it popped again {black}:scared: ...how to trace the short? Thank you

the alternator was faulty...went back to autozone to swap out new alternator and that fixed it. Thank you all for your help.
