2002 GMC Sierra 2500

So my truck doesnt havent any starting issue in the morning. Its only during the day when its hot and im driving during work. I work outside and do alot of stop and go. Its cranking but takes a long time to turn over. Alot of the times Ill have to add gas for it to start. Wonder if its the fuel pump. Brought it to a shop, they tested fuel pressure and came back normal. Battery and alternator levels look normal. Replaced starter but problem was still there. People are saying its the fuel pump. Dont know if it was ever changed. Fuel filter was changed this year. Please advise.

Sound like your fuel injectors are leaking. When it's cold the extra fuel helps it start. When it's hot that extra fuel makes it harder to start. You didn't include your mileage but on a vehicle that old it's a safe bet.

Just over 220,000.
What do you recommend here. Does the injector need a replacement. Should I take it to a shop or get a fuel injection service.

Try simpler measures first. Pour a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the gas, log about 200 miles on it, see whether this resolves the issue. Scotty recommends ATS Fuel Pour-In Treatment which several members here have used with success. https://www.atscarbonclean.com/pour-in/   (Helpful tip.. you don't really want to add it to a full tank of gas but like half a tank instead. Less dilution = stronger cleaning)

Thank you. Just ordered this product.

I think you are right about the leak. I can smell the gas odour almost every time I start my car now. I'm wondering if an O - ring replacement will fix this issue. Might have to bring to the shop. Would be less expensive than getting replacement.

Only replacement will fix and bad seals, but that's not been established yet and rubber deterioration is expected on a 20 year old car. Worn/leaking fuel injectors will create gas smells. (It's worth looking around the engine to make sure you don't have some other 'non-injector' leak, just to be safe) If the smell is really, really strong - you should consider taking it to a good mechanic/shop and not wait on the fuel system cleaner.

Ended up taking it to a shop. They said there was no problem with the fuel injectors. What they did was replaced the fuel pressure regulator. Hopefully this fixes the issue.
Engine did have a leak, it was the water pump which they replaced.

They also said my front diff is leaking and its like seized in there. Just one problem after another lol.

Hopefully the new regulator will remedy the 'temperamental' starting. Thanks for the update.
