2002 Lexus ES 300 Shakes side to side & rumbles when I accelerate.

Hi Scotty! I have a 2002 Lexus ES 300, automatic, with 330,000miles, no codes. The car drives straight, the engine burns about a quart of oil between oil changes. The car shakes when I break at low speeds. However, recently as I accelerate, the car will start shaking side to side and make a rumble/knocking rumble, if I let off the gas the shake and rumble will stop. On the highway once I get up to speed and let off the gas, it will stop shaking/rumble. If I accelerate on the high way I have to do so slowly or else the car will shake/ rumble and I’ll have to let off the gas, to get the shaking to stop.

Am I in serious danger continuing to drive this car for a few more months as I wait for my new car order to arrive? (A Corolla hybrid) I commute about 100 miles to and from work.

Well sounds like the struts are worn. Either that or a motor mount or transmission mount is gone and when you accelerate the engine and transmission hasn't held together correctly and will start wobbling. Also check the tires. If they are worn and aren't perfectly round they can do that too

I'll have those things checked out. Just trying to keep this car together for a few more months. Thank you Scotty!

Find a mechanic to check the CV axles.
