2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Random Stall at Idle & Drive

  1. Hey Scotty love your videos faithful follower here. I've had an intermittent stall problem for the last 6 months, which has gotten progressively worse as it happens more often as time goes on. The car just dies, but runs right back on again when I turn the key & back to driving as if nothing happened. I might be idle, or driving 80mph, the stall is always the same. Mechanics in 3 states all say it would cost too much $ to confirm the problem because they'd have to swap parts in order TO find the problem. I put in a new battery in Sep 2020 but no engine codes have registered since. However with the previous battery I pulled a code P0340, P0505, P0353, P0352 P0351 & some oxygen & evaporative emissions codes. Car has also recently had a new alternator & ignition lock cylinder installed, so while the vehicle is fine starting & power-wise, the random stalling remains. Sometimes it may turn off and not be able to turn on again for 10, 20 even 45 minutes (this occurs rarely but does happen a few times a month). Without knowing for certain several mechanics say their hunch is it's the Camshaft Position Sensor, but cannot confirm without doing the work $. After watching your video on the topic & other videos, my hunch is it's the same. PCM was replaced in July 2018 & no issues since. Any guidance or advice would he greatly appreciated this has been a long time headache.

Jeeps in notorious electrical nightmares at the age especially that model.but if you find a real mechanic like me in your area he would hook up his high level scan tool drive the vehicle until it's stalled out then analyze the data that occurred when it did stall out as those machines have a backwards memory capability of about 45 seconds
