I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty and the fuel gauge is stuck on empty. I asked a guy at O'Reilly's and he said it was probably the fuel pump; later I looked on Youtube and noticed a guy diagnosing whether the fuel pump was bad on his car and all he did was turn the key half way and listen for a humming noise. According to him, if there was a humming noise then your fuel pump was still good. I tried it myself and heard the same humming noise in the Jeep. So what else could it be? The sending unit, the gauge, or something else?

More than likely its the sending unit. Sometimes it comes as a whole assembly with the fuel pump from parts stores.
