I have a 2003 Lincoln Towncar 72,000 miles V8 automatic. It has a remote lock and unlock which works sporadically. I had the batteries replaced in the fobs in March 2022 when I bought the car so I don't think that is the problem. Just wondering where to start.

Do you have a spare? I always keep one in the house.
I do. Just tried both of them and neither worked. Just wondering if I got bad batteries when I changed them because sometimes it works.
do the power locks inside the car work reliably?

ok so there must be a problem with the receiver. Have you checked all fuses and relays?

Yes. Very surprising to me the things that work considering the age of the car. Scotty is right! These beasts are quality vehicles.
