I have a 2003 Nissan Altima with 184,000 miles. The transmission acts a little squirrelly when it’s cold. And especially when it’s cold outside. When I let the car warm up it shifts perfectly fine. The transmission fluid is a little dirty (not black) and I was wondering if I should change it. It’s still red but a dark red. If I change the fluid what fluid should I use and should I use a little tranny additive?

you're lucky nissan hasnt yet started using cvt in those model years of the altima. yes pls go change the trans fluid asap. buy the fluid at the dealer and ask a mechanic u trust to do it for u. if you havent done it in 5yrs of something do it 3 times right now. (fluid is cheap)

Drain n fill, seal it drive it till it gets hot, repeat 2 more times, 4th time keep fluid in it. Only if you're planning to keep it many more years

I have one nissan car too, but its cvt transmission~ 😓

I think my  transmission acts  badly shift  when it’s cold..    even if you push the accelerator, it just can not go fast... speed about 15 mile/hour  , then about 2miniter later , it can speed up to 30 mile/hour....  then , 50// until the temperature goes middle of the meter...  then ,cvt will work fine...

I have cleaned the oil pan , and change the filter. change the nissan cvt oil for one time.  it do not work at all~~  I have no ideal to do with this problem.

it might be your catalytic converters

Buy the right fluid from the dealership part depo. Then just change the fluid in the pan, don't do a system flush. If you feel confident then do it yourself but make sure you actually know how to do it before you start. If not, pay a mechanic (not the dealer) to do it for you with the fluid you bought.
