We broke the timing belt but didn't know it, so we also tried starting the engine. Engine turns but doesn't start (obviously). Some people say 2.0L is non-interference, others say it is technically interference. My understanding is that it is an interference engine, but we may get lucky yet.
I was thinking about doing a leakdown test on the engine to determine if there are bent valves before I go ahead and pull the whole cylinder head. If the leakdown test is good, can I proceed with nothing other than a timing belt replacement? Do you have an approach to tackle this problem that may be better than what I am proposing?

Tear it down for my experience it is interference and valves will be bent
