Hi Scotty,I bought a 2004 Mazda 3 with the 2.3L 4 banger hooked up to a 4 speed Automatic last year for 1700 bucks.It shifts hard going from 1st to 2nd when its cold.Is there a way to fix it without the need to replace the trani?

The car is 18 years old going on 19 and Mazdas of that time period are known for weak automatic transmissions. When is the last time the transmission fluid and filter were changed? What is the current condition of the fluid?

See if you have a leak of tranny fluid or if it’s dirty or low
