Hey everyone i have a 2004 Toyota Matrix with 200k clicks on the engine. I was trying to change the oil recently i tried to take the oil filter off but wasn't able to i tried an oil filter wrench but was unable too i even went as far as using a set of oil filter pliers to accomplish this mission but the previous shop must have overtightened it.

Current situation: The oil filter is bent a tad bit out of shape not a lot but the bottom of the filter is a little bent i want to replace but don't want to damage the oil filter assembly.

Any tips or tricks to get it off?

Put duct tape on the bottom edges of the oil filter, and it will give the oil filter wrench something to grab onto.

I've sometimes had luck punching a big screwdriver through the filter and turning it with that, if there's room. You might try searching youtube for "remove stuck oil filter" for ideas.

Suitable 1/2 inch oil filter socket (hope it will still fit onto your deformed filter casing), plus ratchet or breaker bar, plus (in extreme cases) extension bar. Never in my life did I see an oil filter which could resist such a combination.
