- Hey Scotty, I have a 2005 Buick Century and a few weeks ago me and my friends were in the car and it shifted the tiniest bit oddly, but didn't feel all that bad. We checked the trans fluid and there were black bits in it and it smelled burnt. Later we checked it again after it was towed and it was clean, and the fluid had been fine since. Is my transmission going out? Or is it just old?

If you have black bits floating around in the fluid that's from worn friction surfaces. The transmission is very likely on its way out.
