1. Any known problems with 2007-2009 Camry automatic cars regarding excessive oil consumption or other issues to avoid this year’s altogether?
2. Thoughts on $2900 for 2005 Camry LE auto 4cyl —138K mi with one scan error code— PO420–bank1 catalytic system efficiency below threshold. Is this a good deal?

Yes, the 07-09 Camrys with the 4 cylinder engine have oil burning problems frequently. As far as the one with the code, that could be something simple and cheap, or complex and expensive - see https://www.obd-codes.com/p0420 for some info
I would tend to stay away from cars with codes that could be expensive unless you are pretty mechanically inclined/handy.
