Hi Scotty/all,
My son's '05 Tahoe has trouble idling. He got gas a couple of days ago and he said the pump was pumping very slowly at the gas station. I am afraid he has introduced water/trash into his tank. Unfortunately, there have also been electrical issues recently (fans running by themselves, idling weirdly (like a pulse). I thought I had finally fixed that by cleaning the electrical connectors to the PCM. What should I do?
To compound the issue, I cannot check for codes because there is a problem with the OBD2 circuit. As soon as I connect a reader to the port, the fuse to that circuit blows (the 15A cigarette lighter circuit). How do I begin to troubleshoot where the short is in this circuit. I am currently armed with a cheap digital multi-reader (yes, the one you can sometimes pick up for free with a coupon from a certain tool store... (rhymes with "on a date")).
I appreciate any help/guidance!

Look it sounds like you have some serious electrical problems with the car and if you can't atleast scan the car to see what's going on even a Pro like Scotty is going to struggle to provide you with any quality info without charging you an arm and a leg to go through the car with a fine tooth comb. As for the fuel put some fuel stabilizer in it because it's a big job to drop the gas tank to drain it on most cars. So really what it comes down to is how much money are you willing to spend to fix this thing. Chevy for a long time hasn't been the bastion of quality and if the car has electrical demons you could end up spending thousands and the car still be in rough shape worst case.
If you plan on keeping the car you have to atleast get the OBD port fixed and check all your fuses since the fans are acting weird and here is Scotty's video on testing for electrical shorts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcGT1bNrsAM
