Can I put a Japanese engine in my US Element

Hello,

The original engine in my 2005 Element spun the thrust washer and needs to be replaced.  I was looking at a low mileage JDM engine which has some advantages over a potentially worn out, high-mileage engine from a local scrap yard although 2x more expensive.  USDM Honda Elements from 2003-2006 have a K24A4 engine with an RAA subcode which I believe relates to the two-lobe intake cam and standard exhaust cam in the cylinder head which is what I have.  The JDM engine is a K24A engine (no 4 suffix) but with an RAA head.  Not quite the same as a K24A4 engine but same sub code.  Is this JDM engine 100% compatible with my USDM Element wiring harness and PCM?  Thanks.

I seriously doubt your computer can handle a different engine.  Are they also going to sell you the PCM designed for the replacement engine?

There are discussions of putting JDM engines into Elements on the Element Owner's Club Forum - perhaps you could find some answers and/or parts there:

FYI, that is MY discussion that I posted on the EOC forum. 😉

1 does, how about the other half dozen? We're just trying to help here. You want us to research, verify and footnote everything, you're going to have to pay people.

What's even more complex is that according to the internet JDM cars had the K24A with no suffix both for "performance" and "eco" variants.

Wether it's possible to swap a K24A into a car that had a K24A4, is a thing no one knows unless they tried it.

I wouldn't take the gamble, If you can't find a engine from an Element - the Accord and Odyssey seem to have had the same suffix, same performance and head.

The PCM is not included with the engine.  And I don't think that the distributors even have the PCMs that came with the engines imported from Japan in bulk, probably in seacans.  Looking to get responses on this forum and others from those who have actually done it.  I know that ETCG did a swap with his 05 Element (the desert sand one) but he installed a K24A1 and it started and ran but no long term follow-up - that's a problem. I thought K24A1s were for CRVs.
