Hey scotty
I have a 2005 toyota avalon 191k miles.
I stripped out the hole on my oil pan somehow. I tried using the eco bolt and was unsuccessful, so I ordered a new oil pan and gasket. I mananged to get the old oil pan out (with the help if your older video) but my issue is I cannot get the old pan physically out. The sub frame is in the way on one side, and the exhaust is on the other side. The bolts that hold the exhaust in are rusted in. Tried using break free oil but they are stuck and will strip. I could really use your help on this one as I am stuck. The only option I see is to sawzaw the exhaust out and pay a shop to replace it. The vehicle is on jack stands in my drive and this is my working option on the car. Please help. Thanks
You should have repaired the hole with a helicoil/timesert, or bored it out to a larger size.
Now, in your place, I would grind off the exhaust bolts.
Or remove the cross-member piece if that's easier.
Have you tried heating the exhaust bolts with a torch? That and several applications of penetrating oil over a few days may loosen them up.
Look up "Dorman Universal Oil Drain Plug" or "Eco-Plug".
I don't know how long one of these will last, but it will keep oil in your engine until you can take it in.
Thanks for your reply. I did try eco plug, and in fact i tried 2 of them. Nothing against the product, but it did not work for me at all. I watched several videos, even bought jb weld to use in place of the crappy epoxy that it came with. They both leaked immediately upon install, and its probably my doing and not the product. After that I ordered the new oil pan and started removing the old one.
As far as taking my vehicle to a shop, I have had nothing but bad experiences with mechanics in my area. Could probably start a new thread on here on just that topic. I will always try to do something myself to save money, which ultimately led me to find scotty and his content.
