Hi Scotty,
Im a big fan of your channel. You are the grandparent I never had and I pretty much take your advice with my eyes closed when it comes to older cars.
I live in the UK and have an imported 2006 Japanese Hybrid/Petrol Honda Civic. Its a great car and has done over 127,000 miles.
I got in a small accident in 2017 after my car skid in the snow and hit the curb, it kinda dislodged the front tires and had it fixed but its not the same. Now the mechanic asked me to replace the steering rack column when I took it to get aligned and unfortunately, that particular column manufacturing has been discontinued and all I can find online are used ones, what shall I do? Honda dealership guy told me to get it refurbished because these cars are pretty solid and If im lucky to find a new part, it will cost me hundreds of british pounds 💸💸💸💸
Also, I can hear my gearbox making a clunking sound when I shift the gear, the car runs okay but that clunking noise is driving me nuts 🤯 what could be wrong with it?
Please let me know so I start getting the required parts before my annual MOT (Ministry of Transport Test) due date gets any closer.
Many thanks,
Asma
I don’t know how junk yards are there, but they may have one. I’ve found some hard to find pieces at a junk yard, for older cars.
Otherwise refurb from a reputable place may be the only choice.
Thanks for your feedback. I found a steering Rack column from a chop shop but the bolts are very rusty, not sure if I need to replace those bolts or keep looking?
I’m glad you found one!
Ooh. I would have to defer on others in the forum for that question.
Even If i did find one, the tie rods thread are rusty. I will have to buy new tie rods for the column, better be safe than sorry.
