2006 Nissan Murano - 3000rpm
I took my car to a guy who's been working on it for a while. Before I took it in, my engine light was on and I was getting catalytic converter clog codes. The guy wanted to test drive it before working on it and says it may not be worth it because now the rpms are stuck at 3,000 when the car starts. He's saying the transmission could be the problem. Couldn't this be due to the clogged cats? I never had any slipping, noise, or smell. Just hard to believe it's the transmission for sure. Thanks for any help.

There's no such thing as a clog code.

I don't understand that line of reasoning.

No, clogged cats would choke the engine down. It's more likely a problem with your throttle body or unmetered air entering the intake. It sounds to me like you need to find a better mechanic.

The Jatco CVTs used by Nissan are pretty awful and prone to failure but that doesn't sound like a transmission symptom if it's revving up to 3000 RPM right after starting while in Park or Neutral.
