I bought a $10,000 2007 Chevy Avalanche with 150k miles. I had my grandfather who has been a mechanic for over 50 years inspect if before buying. He said everything runs and drives good no issues. How long can this last before major expensive repairs?
You paid too much in the first place. Unless the previous owner literally babied that vehicle which is possible ( I don't know if it was), it still has some life but not a lot. Prepare for repairs when you reach 200k.
It was listed $10,500 and I negotiated down to $10,000. I live in Rust Michigan and finding trucks here in decent shape are hard to find and almost $20,000. Especially the value of trucks these days.
How much rust is there currently on there? Does the engine have cylinder deactivation? What was the vehicle used for in the past?
Only a few typical Michigan surface rust.
I’m not sure if it is or not because I didn’t see the flex fuel badge anywhere on it. I don’t know what it was used for but judging by what was in the truck were some lawn equipment so it might’ve been a work truck for landscaping.
You might be ok. Change the oil every 5k miles, don't drive like a maniac or else the transmission will burn out. You could change the transmission fluid now but be careful- you could make it worse.
That’s good to know. I change my oil on any car I own every 3k miles because I’m old school. Transmission fluid was fine. No burnt smell.
