Should I buy this Expedition

Hey Scotty, im thinking about buying a 2007 Ford expedition with 118k miles for $2,700. The owner had it serviced yearly and only drove it around town, so is this possibly a good buy? And is it a good and reliable car?


Clarification: Which engine and transmission?

it's an attractive price ... almost too good to be true. What's wrong with it? lol

The transmission on those is a weak point. If your mechanic says it is in a good shape, go ahead. You can not beat that price.

From 2006-2014 the Ford Expedition came with the 5.4L Triton 24V V8 (3-valve).  These engines had some inherent issues (the most severe related to the timing chain system) that if the previous owner was not on top of the engine maintenance including engine oil changes (every 3,000 miles recommended on these engines) then you are looking potentially at a new engine (worst case).  If it were me, not worth the risk and I would pass on it.  See below to get caught up to speed on the engine issues:
