Buying new or used SUV

Hey everyone, I've been looking into purchasing a bigger car and happened to land on possibly getting an FJ Cruiser. I found a 2011 FJ with 130000 miles on it and thought it might be right for me assuming it's been serviced well and everything checks out when I see it. I have the capacity to spend about $30k and this one is going for $24k. The reason I landed on the FJ is because I like the unique styling of the vehicle, it's sits high on the road, and Toyotas are notoriously reliable. I'm definitely avoiding any 2007 FJ's.

I know the FJ has a bit of a cult following thereby driving the price up a bit, but I just really like the more unique look. I'm single and going to be living very close to where I work in the next month so the commute is also not too much of a problem.

I just wanted to hear some thoughts or maybe alternatives that could be better purchases. I'm definitely getting something that sits a little bit higher off the ground and is more comfortable to drive (I'm 6'4" driving a compact sedan right now). Anything helps, thanks!

They are good cars and their value goes up since they were discontinued. I think it is a good choice if you like it’s style but definitely do the test drive and have your mechanic check it before you buy it.
