Have a quick question for you guys,
I have a 2007 camry with 165k miles which means it's out of the TSB mileage limit and it burns about a quart of oil every 1000 miles.
I was wondering if I could just replace the pistons and piston rings and then reinstall them or do I have to have the block machined.
Thanks
At that mileage, I would say 50/50 chance that once you get the pistons out and measure the cylinder bores, they would still be serviceable in which case ball hone the cylinders, and install new pistons and ring, break it in just like new...
Won't know until disassembled and inspected. The CORRECT way would be some machining work as the cylinders would need honing at least. And it would be a shame to go to the trouble of replacing rings without doing other beneficial work. And rinks won't fix valve seals...one of the things needing checked when disassembled. Bottom line, I'd trade it in on a newer model Camry unless you really like the car, in which case, rebuild/replace all the bad worn parts in the engine.

Yeah I figured some sort of machining would be required.
I wouldn't want to get rid of the car if it only burns 1qt/1000mi, was just wondering if I could do it in my garage easily.
It's a pretty rare model since it's built in Japan and it has a manual transmission.
