I have a 2007 Toyota highlander Hybrid (V6) with 129,952K miles on it.
While driving on the highway, the whole dash suddenly lit up like a Christmas tree.
I'm talking about every imaginable light possible came on (ABS, P/S, Traction Control, and Brake Holder,) not to mention the LED display now reads CHECK VSC System.
Aside from the dash suddenly being lit up, it seems to run/drive fine.
I did not notice any shimmy or shaking, no noises, no fluid loss or smoke. I didn't notice any difference in the braking either, however, I have not driven it since the lights came on as I do not want to cause further damage to the vehicle or cause an accident.
I have been told that ABS Brake Module failures are common with these vehicles.
I reached out to Toyota as I have heard the ABS Brake Modules were recalled on the Highlander models.
I purchased this vehicle used, so if there had been a recall I was never notified.
Toyota informed me that some ABS Modules had been recalled but not on my make, year, model so if that is, in fact, my problem then I'm outta luck.
I'd appreciate insight as to what you think the problem/solution might be.
As a woman with very limited knowledge about cars any and all help is appreciated.
In closing, can you recommend a reputable shop in the Houston Metro area that can repair this problem (if need be?)
THANK YOU!
If you have access to a scan tool, that will help us diagnose what they problem might be. AutoZone, O’reilly, or local auto parts store might read your codes for free, or let your borrow their scanner. Let us know what the codes are to narrow down the possibilities.
FWIW, when my Prius hybrid lit up like a Christmas tree, it was because of these things:
1) Bad hybrid battery.
2) Bad Water Pump.
3) Low oil.
But without a code, it is hard to diagnosis.
