engine fails to shut down when the STOP switch is pushed

2008 C6 Corvette Z51 LS3

20,600 miles

NO TROUBLE CODES

When idling in PARK and the STOP button is pressed, the engine continues to idle for about 15 seconds.  Everything shuts down except the engine.  It continues to idle normally until it runs out of fuel pressure.  The ignition fails to turn off and the idle is completely normal in NEUTRAL, or DRIVE and it will never stop running until shifted into PARK.  After the engine dies there is a parasitic current draw that will run the battery down in four or five hours.  I believe the ignition circuit is staying ON and that is what is draining the battery.  I have to disconnect the battery to stop it from being drained.  I reconnect the battery when I want to drive it again.  The car runs like a scalded cat.  I discovered that the engine will never shut down if I put the transmission in NEUTRAL or DRIVE and press the STOP switch.  The RED STOP indicator light on the switch illuminates as it should.  The solenoid that unlocks the shifter in PARK won't release the shifter sometimes (a common problem), but other times it works perfectly.  You just never know when it is going to malfunction and stay locked in PARK.  I also own a 2005 C6 with Automatic transmission and have never experienced a problem with getting out of PARK, or failing to shut down properly.

I am a FAA Licensed A&P Mechanic and Avionics technician and I hold a FCC technician's license too. (Used to work on large jets for EASTERN AIRLINES until it shut down in Jan 1991).

I tried replacing the START/STOP switch to no avail.  I have checked and tested every fuse and relay on this car.  Everything checks out good.  I don't have electrical schematics for the C6 Corvette and I can't fiigure out what the problem is.  Do you have a solution?  I LOVE driving this car but it has been plagued with numerous electrical failures since new.  Wiring harnesses are labled "MADE IN MEXICO".  Replaced wiper motor, driver's door actuator, tank purge valve solenoid, #4 ignition coil, mild to wild exhaust solenoid valve, electronic brake control module (EBCM), and the START/STOP switch too.

Nobody believes me when I tell them about this peculiar problem.  I wrote into a Corvette Forum and was heclked and ridiculed mercilessly with ridiculous answers like "I wonder if it is still running" and much worse. I was disgusted with the replies I got from Corvette Forums.

Yeah, well GM makes a lot of their garbage in Mexico these days and you're wiring harness is no exception. You have some kind of electrical failure. Realize that system is all computer run. The button you push doesn't send power on and off to the main system. It just is a request code to the control module. I advice finding an expert Corvette electric mechanic and pray you can figure it out without having to replace the main computer
