Scotty,
I am the original owner of a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 V8 with Active Fuel Management with 180,000 miles.
It has always burned a quart of oil every 2,000 miles which the dealer said was "normal".
I recently had a check engine light for a misfire in cylinder #7 and #3. When I pulled the spark plugs, there was oil on the threads and the electrodes were fouled. I googled the internet and found that in 2013, GM issued a service bulletin #10-06-01-0081 where they re-designed the valve cover to prevent this problem. I had the dealer install the new re-designed valve cover and replace all of the spark plugs. They said this will fix the problem and the truck now runs like new.
My question is: I would personally like to get another 100,000 miles out of of the truck, but has this leaking oil in the cylinders caused any problems were I should get rid of the truck while the getting is good?
Thanks for all of your advice and hard work.
Almost sounds like the valve seals are going. Sadly a problem on these motors

The valve seals were replaced when I replaced the valve cover.
Well it's worth more now than later but that vehicle isn't worth a lot either way. From what you've said, 10k more shouldn't be an issue... a few plugs at most ; )
