Hey guys,

I just got a 2008 Toyota Highlander with 100000 miles on it and after 3months I started to hear a rattling sound at cold start after 2seconds it goes back to normal and the engine shorts oil, there’s no drop of oil on the ground & it runs smooth the rattling sound comes out from the passenger side of the engine close to the timing area. I really want this fixed cos there are not too good mechanics in my area and am scared of giving it to them because it seems it’s quite expensive to fix.
And I noticed a small blue smoke at the start up on cold start too and after that it goes back to normal I have used a bar leak rear main seal oil it stopped then after some months now it’s back, I was recommended to use a Lucas engine oil stop leak buh before that I wanna know what’s wrong please help me

Well if you're cool it's going down you're losing cooling pressure test and if it's not leaking well it's burning it and then the engine overhaul was not done correctly. Overhauling a modern engine is not easy and you should always have the heads checked by a machine shop on any aluminum head vehicle before you put it back together

Ok chief but I noticed the oil stopped after I flushed the synthetic 5w30 oil recommended for the car and I had to use a mobil oil xhp 20w- 50 for the car with and ambro oil treatment-stop smoke and all of a sudden the car stops smoking but when I start the car at a cold start there’s no smoke but after a long ride like 4-5hours with a heavy sun when the engine is really really hot the smoke comes back a little but very little grey from the exhaust what do u think chief !!! My mechanic is miles away from me and I have to travel back to meet him ...

Probably needs a new timing chain kit.  Pull the trans and replace rear main seal.

@doc what about the valve seal and oil ring do u think it’s what’s shortening the oil and brining out the little blue smoke at cold start????

The blue smoke indicates burning oil.  Try changing your PCV valve to see if it helps.  Otherwise, it's the valve stem seals or the piston rings or both.

Hello guys please I need advise I use a 2008 Toyota Highlander and the car was removing blue smoke before so I did an engine overhauling I changed the pistol rings, valve seals, & pvc valve and I changed the oil & filter so am using a valscoline 5w30 synthetic high milerange oil it was still smoking so I removed the oil and put a 5w30 synthetic Nord app oil the smoke reduced a little but shows up when I park the car on Ac or when I apply the breaks. I even had to go to car wash to wash the exhaust wit soap still it brings out little grey smoke when the engine is heat very well and I noticed my coolant goes down a little please guys what do u think is wrong because I wanna travel with this car next week on a long ride

  1. Hello chief so after overhauling my 2GR-4wheel drive engine with the blue smoke still coming out so I decided to changed the oil first. I flushed the vascoline synthetic 5w30 oil recommended for the car out, & I had to use a mobil oil xhp 20w- 50 for the car with and ambro oil treatment-(stop smoke)and all of a sudden the car stops smoking but when I start the car at a cold start there’s no smoke but after a long ride like 4-5hours with heavy sun light heating the car &  the engine is really hot the smoke comes back very little grey from the exhaust what do u think chief I checked the oil gauge but it doesn’t really look like it’s going down every morning I check !!! My mechanic is miles away from me and I have to travel back to meet him ...
