Hey guys, I have a 2009 Corolla that I bought last year and I have had some overheating problems recently. I thought it may have been a bad thermostat so I changed that out and now it does run a lot longer without overheating but eventually the heat ticker inches above the middle and goes to the one above the middle and usually stays around that temp. When I check the cooling system after a drive, the top hose is always hot and hard. Then after cooling down there is always a lot more coolant in the reservoir than I put in there. I’m just really confused and would like some guidance. Thank you!
You probably have a 13 year old radiator cap. Also, could be an old temperature sensor. Is that 13 years old too? When you changed the thermostat, did you properly evacuate all the air out of the system with the heat setting on "high?"
I changed the rad cap with this one I bought on amazon but I heard that I should’ve bought oem rad cap. your right I did try to purge air but I didn’t have heat on high. I haven’t personally changed out the temp sensor, it could be really old I’m not sure. Should I try to purge air but this time heat on high and go from there?
Yes, you have to set the heat on high so any air trapped in the system moves through and out of the heater core through the system. If you can, get one of the Burp funnel kits at the auto parts store to make it a lot easier.
