Hello,

Long time listener first time contributor 🙂

I have a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it is a pretty good runner up until a week ago.  Ran rough (limp mode), sporadic flashing engine light. Tested at AZ and found to be a Crankshaft Position Sensor throwing a code. Purchased and replaced, would not start or turn, Bad starter.  Replaced starter and now starts right up.  No engine light but ran rough and wanted to stall like not getting gas at my first stop light.  Rev'd the engine drove on down the road seemed to clear a bit.  Had my battery tested (6yr old battery) - tested good.  Drove the next day seemed some what better but then the engine light flashed, limp mode - would not take the gas peddle. Seconds later light went off, power resumed and went home.  Took it to Midas, said the Crank sensor and the Cam sensor appear to be synced and they could could not diagnose further with their limited scan tool - advised going to the dealer.  Dealer is not available till this next Friday.  Drove again and seemed better, my wife then drove it on a very short trip and it was good, parked for an hour, then ran back out to on another short trip.  Engine light flashes, limpmode again, brings it right home.  I hop in it and it does it to me also on my way to AZ for a scan.  No codes stuck, engine light off again - no signs of issues at this time.  Got back in the jeep drove home, it did it right away again by the first stop light.  Drove the next day - running great and got up to 60mph for a bit and drove for 30 - 40 minutes, parked.  2 hours later get in drove to the store came back and parked in the drive way.  2 hour after parking hopped in 🙁 clicking only, no start, batter very low.  Pushed in the garage and put the charger on it over night.  This morning 9-5-2023 started right up, Battery read 12.88volts, when running the with Alternator saying 14.26volts, turned on lights, radio, blower, left the door open alternator running 14.14volts.  Stopped engine, battery reading is at 13.01volt with surface charge.  Not sure what to check next before sending to the dealer for yet another payment for a diag.  Please let me know what you think.

Thanks!

ML

Sounds like you just have a bad battery. If you got a surface charge that's a bad battery is dude. It'll take a surface charge but they won't hold it. Only other thing would be to check for parasitic drain at when it's parked. It's draining the power out of the battery. See my video fixing battery. Drain on your car on YouTube
