Hi Scotty,
Great channel, I have been following you for about 2 years. 3 months ago, my previous car was totalled in an accident and I bought a 2009 Scion Xb, in excellent condition, 92,000 miles on it, well taken care of. I had an ASE certified mechanic give it a thorough check up and he said it was in excellent shape. He replaced the brakes and transmission oil and a couple filters, that was all it needed. Unfortunately, I did not have the info about the 2AZ-FE motor. I have seen no evidence of oil burn so far on this car. I read somewhere that part of the problem with this oil burn is the drainage holes in the pistons were not drilled to the right diameter and they clog up over time? If this were the case, can one add engine cleaner additive to the gas and help resolve that clogging? I really like this car, it handles like a dream...if I had to, I would consider replacing the engine or rebuilding the top end....any ideas?
The issue is about piston oil ring. Unfortunately, you need to rebuild the engine to fix it and for almost all cases, it is not worth it. An alternative solution would be to replace the engine with a JDM one.
Yes it's just worn piston rings the main thing you can do is change your oil a lot use high quality oil like the new gf6 oil and change your oil every 4,000 miles that will keep it running as well as possible the rings are still a weak issue but they can still run a long time even though they burn oil
