Hey y'all, I've been looking into the Volvo s40 as a first car. Yes, I realize it will be more expensive to maintain than say a Camry or Civic, but I'm accepting that and I want to know if the 2010-12 models are ok to buy since Volvo was already owned by Geeley at that point.

For background, we have a 2008 c70 and I love how it drives and handles hence my fondness for the s40

Also I'm looking at the 2010+ models as they have a bit more tech that I would like

My boss drives around a s60 from around this time. His only issue was that stupid power rear view mirror that these volvos have. They tend to break pretty easily (auto dimming and color fade / swirling) and for whatever reason it kinda screws with the srs and whatnot. If you don't mind that common issue you should be ight. he also got his alternator and rear main seal done recently at 165k miles. Idk if this is common or not but he also had some problems with a check engine light because the car was sitting for about 6 months but went away after he drove it for a month. I don't remember the code but it has something to do with The computer thinking that oil pressure was off by a huge margin.

If you’re already awake of the risks, then it seems like you e already made up your mind..

Just be sure to have a professional Volvo mechanic thoroughly inspect the car, before you buy it.

Volvos are probably the most reliable among all the other European brands.
