Issue:
ONLY when starting the car for the first time of the day: 2-second grind AFTER car has started. It’s the sound the car makes if you try to start the car when it’s already started.
ALWAYS starts and never dies.
Happening at least 3 years and no difference in frequency or duration.
My friend, mechanic for 30 years, says it’s no big deal. However, my mom wants the car and I can’t tell her to ignore it without an explanation or fix.

It's likely an issue with the starter. It could range from a solenoid to damaged teeth from the starter.
