I have a GTI with the DSG has an issue where when I shift into reverse I can feel the car try to shift into reverse but then it fails. The car then seems to stop communicating with the transmission and im suck in first gear. When this happens the check engine light comes on with the code P2711. To remedy this all you have to do is turn the car off then on and it behaves like normal. Which makes me think that this is an electronic issue not a mechanical one. The car is due for a transmission service anyway and I'm wondering if the fix is an easy one or I should go to the other side of town remove the plates and vin and set the car on fire and walk away.
