[Solved] 2011 Camry harsh shifts when cold

Hello Scotty, I am a long time fan of your channel.

I bought a 2011 Toyota Camry 2.5L 6 speed automatic with 245,000kms (152,000miles) back in July. It drives well and doesn't use any oil (in 3000miles so far). Apart from a small clunk in the back when going over bumps at low speed, the car seems to be in good shape.

I have noticed that when the car is cold after sitting overnight, for the first couple of runs through the gears, 4th and 5th gear are rather harsh. From the 3rd or 4th time it's shifted into those gears and once the car's warmed up, the shifts are smooth.

These cars don't have a dipstick for the ATF so I can't see the level or condition of the fluid. I had the ATF changed at the dealer a month ago and put Amsoil WS fluid instead of Toyota WS fluid. I guess they have a dumb design for draining it, a valve or something, instead of a regular drain plug. The dealer was only able to get about 2 1/4 quarts out and replaced it with that amount. It may have improved the issue very slightly.

Just wondering if this is something I should worry about.

Thank you.

Yeah if I were you I'd live with it they do wear a little bit as they age and that's not bad. It's just showing its age as long as it's just when it's warmed up I wouldn't worry
