2011 Volvo XC70 T6 transmission fluid

My understanding is that the transmission is a sealed system and the dealer says that the fluid does not need to be changed.  The vehicle has about 135,000 miles and has never had the fluid replaced.  I have read and been told that to replace the fluid at this point might cause a lot of problems. Do you agree with that. I want to replace the fluid but at this point I am afraid that I could create an issue with the transmission that wasn’t there previously.  Thank you!

Check out youtuber Volvosweden. When we had our XC70 T6, I watched his videos to see how and what needed to be done. He's got a lot of helpful info XC70 Videos.

There is no such thing as "lifetime" transmission fluid. Any automatic transmission needs regular fluid changes for longest service life.

Generic advice would be not to change fluid if it's burnt and gritty (likely with that many miles)  but a lot depends on the transmission design. Paging our site transmission guy @dan to chime in on the advisability of changing the fluid at this point.
