I’m wanting to know if I should buy a2011 Chevy Malibu for my grandson. It has 17000. Miles on it. The individual that has it wants $3800. Needing a first used vehicle for a 16 year old grandson. Good used vehicles are hard to find and really expensive right now.
It is an ok car, especially at that mileage/price. but get rid of it before 80,000 mi. The engines weren't the best.
If it has only 17000 miles and the mechanic checks it, it can be a decent car.
Great first car. Big enough to be safe. Cheap enough to risk on a new driver.
But yes, have a mechanic or someone experienced check it out.
And if there is no service history, make sure to change out the radiator fluid right away.
With that price and mileage buy it and drive it till 100000miles and then sell it or get rid of it. Those cars have all sorts of problems like
Transmission breaking down
Engine failure
Electronic failure
My friend got lockout due to anti theft system got messed up only at 50000miles
So drive it as long as u can but don't spend huge fortune on it
Also maintain it like regular oil change and Transmission oil change especially
Generally, the Malibus are rolling piles of junk (mainly the ones from the mid-2000s and up), but it has 17 000 miles on it and ur paying $3800 which is a pretty good deal. If a mechanic says it's good, go ahead and buy it.
