2012 Ford Fusion A/C Diagnosis

Dear Scotty,

Our 2012 Ford Fusion (150,000 miles, 4 cyl/auto, and well kept since new) has developed an intermittent A/C problem that has gotten more bad than good.  It blows cold then warm air and when it blows warm are it seems to not make a ‘click’ sound.  I assume the click is from the clutch relay or similar.   We are planning to ‘take it in’ but not sure what to be aware of to avoid ‘the parts cannon’ approach.

Are there common problems?

Your condenser may be bad. The condenser is in front of the radiator assembly, and it can get nicked by rocks that were thrown up by vehicles that are in front of you.

It's quite possible that enough refrigerant has leaked out to affect AC operation after 13 years, however we can't tell from here. Might also be an electrical problem or a problem with the blend door operation. (The AC system in that car is computer-controlled.)

Thanks for the input on this.   It acts funny so I wasn’t sure.   It sounds like even if it is a condenser problem the result is low freon.
