just got my tundra 2008 5.7 @ 155k miles i should of got it a certified dealer ship where they do some kind of inspection. the air filter was dirty spark plugs had plenty of miles. oil was black these are basic things ....drove it home 2 days later codes came up misfire types. runs fine but tough starting..did the sp plgs ,Maf, air filter sensor the coils with the misfire codes . Now getting ready for the fuel pressure this weekend. one more interesting thing was that i check the spark plug two weeks later after i ran fuel injection cleaner the top threads of the sprk plug near the spark was all dark brown not oily ( i couldn't rub it off) so maybe carbon or too hot. checked gap .. strange stuff ...maybe timing chain.$$ not sure what could of caused this struff . could be two problem hot from bad chain and maybe fuel reg needs replacing.. sorry for long post . just looking for clues. again thx for sharing.

can it be something crazy like caty or ox sensors.i used the obd2 and smog came back ok
Didn't you have a mechanic inspect this 17-year-old truck before purchase?
Scotty moved out of Houston years ago and currently alternates between Clarksville, Tennessee and Portsmouth, Rhode Island. (He is currently located in Rhode Island and will be returning to Tennessee in late July.)
The problem could be a lot of things. Don't guess. You need to do some troubleshooting. A complete diagnostic scan for codes and live data (freeze frame data if any codes) would be helpful.
