2012 civic has been great 150,000 after replacing alternator I'm getting a check airbag system alert intermittentl, it may just be a coincidence. It clears for a while when car is restarted. A garage diagnosed it as a short in the driver airbag in the steering and says it needs to be replaced, approx 1k. Is this true or can someone check the connection first and if this is true is it guaranteed to resolve the issue

How exactly did this garage "diagnose" the problem? Did they disassemble to steering column to check or are they just guessing and fishing for the big one, you? Calling on @jack62 who just might have a wiring diagram so you could trace the circuit.
