I'm looking to buy a 2012 Subaru Legacy 4 cyl with the CVT
It has 173k miles.
What's the reliability on these things, and what are some heads up to check before buying one.

That's a pretty early version of their CVT and it is probably on its last legs at that age and mileage.
That car has Subaru's earlier-generation 4-cylinder engine with a timing belt and is prone to blowing head gaskets. If the head gaskets are original they will likely go out any time now.
I'd pass on it.
