I own a 2013 BMW X5, yesterday it made a burning plastic/rubber smell after driving only a 7 mile trek. (There and back) The beauty cover wasn’t melted and the pipes are mostly made of something not rubber or plastic. What could be the cause?

Check to see if your valve cover gasket is leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold.

It’s almost ten years old. Valve cover is made of plastic. Gaskets start to eventually leak.
I concur with @Doc, it may be oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold from the valve cover or valve cover gasket. You have to remove the beauty cover to see it.

Something rubbing on the tires? I don't know.
