2013 Toyota 4Runner 125k miles
I am planning to buy a 2013 4Runner here is the carfax https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory/ar20/Zwr8FVQIlb_iBw6O1uHLc2QfC8S8S9lqn52IeHX7leDF-81SaaiklyAvUdWs2rZOicosgsLjMuTNc8NrPT4uGdlkb1dzHnfBvs0?cs:o=%27carfax%27 , do you guys think this is a smart buy?
Also, the transmission fluid, coolant, or power steering fluid has not been changed, should I do that when I buy it? It has 125k miles, what should I do?
You can't rely on Carfax for anything aside perhaps from detecting if the odometer has been rolled back. A pre-purchase inspection by a good mechanic to verify the vehicle's condition is a must.
Try to sign up on the toyota website and put in the vin as your vehicle, it may give you much more detailed records that were done.
I bought my GX470 at 125k also, that has the same A750 transmission in it, and it was changed at 90k as recommended. If mine had not been changed, I would have changed it anyway, it isn't that far past the recommended interval. It is your vehicle though, you must do your research and make the decision for it.
As for coolant and PS fluid, just do it, no worries. If they have been using the dealer for service, you may be able to see more specifically what was done, and that will help you see what needs to be done, and at what time.
- Get a pre-purchase inspection and depending on the price it might be a good buy
- They are great vehicles and should last you a very long time and they have a very good resale value
- I personally would not touch any of the fluids unless they looked suss
Please put a brief description of your question in the title, not a car model. Thanks.
If your car has 125k miles and it's never been changed before, it might still be fine to change. You can check by dipstick if your car has one for the transmission fluid. If has a tarry, dark color and smells burned, then don't change it if it still functions properly. That's the fragments inside and your fluid has considerable amount friction.
