Please help throw ideas my way on things to look for or plan on doing...
Taking delivery today. I OBDed it and fuel mix was great, ATF and coolant temperatures seem good, runs smoothly, visually mostly perfect, shifts nicely, couldn't see signs of suspension leaks, no sign of it towing anything by looking at the tow hitch... There's a 3-month/3k mile warranty for big issues. It was a trade-in at a Kia dealership, mostly clean owners based on the interior.
- I will be doing a drain and fill on the transmission
- The coolant was low and I see a lot of 2014 & 2015 Toyota models (Camry, Sienna and R4s) all low like that between 60-90k. Hoping that's not a problem
- I plan on cleaning the throttle body & mass airflow sensor
- I'm tempted to pull the plugs and scope the cylinders (Should I worry at this stage? CarFax oil change records are spotty.)
- The emergency brake is really weak.
- I have plans on putting Hot Shot Gasoline Extreme to clean things up on the inside in case they used crappy gas.
I'm sticking to OEM parts because I get solid pricing from parts.toyota.com (actually cheaper than Amazon/AutoZone/O'Reilly generics). Wish me luck. Nervewracking.
First thing to do is to take the car to an honest mechanic and have him check the car throughly.
The low coolant level is a major concern.
Always is a worry BUT I have seen quite a few lately, including a friend's 2015 Camry. We did a compression test on the cylinders and the cooling system, all turned out fine. I'll do the same after delivery because the warranty explicitly covers problems related to it.
The tailpipe doesn't indicate oil running out the exhaust or coolant slipping through either.
