2014 Buick Encore possible alternator or battery issue

Hello Scotty and Friends!

I have a 2014 Buick Encore that is on its second battery. It didn't start this morning and wouldn't start when I put a battery charger on it and had it set to 50A start. I let it charge on 10A for about 4 minutes and it started after a lot of cranking. When it wouldn't start, there was a disturbing click coming from around the alternator. Could it have an alternator issue? It was not too serious though and just was barley noticeable. After it started, I ran it on a test drive for about 5 minutes making sure to rev it up a bit on the highway. I haven't tried to start it since, but if it doesn't start right away again I'm going to charge it until it starts and go buy a new battery. Is that a good idea? I should also mention that the battery in it was replaced about 3 years ago at about the same time of year. I live in PA and it has been around 50 degrees almost every day this week. Could it just be cold? All help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

If it is needed, the car has 76,000 miles, turbo 4 cylinder, auto transmission

Have your alternator tested because you said you heard a disturbing click sound. I don't think you may be having battery problems necessarily.

Check the alternator output when idling, should be reading about 14.5 volts at the battery.  Have the battery load tested.  The first cold days of the year kill a lot of batteries.
