Anybody have a practical experience with this device's installation or removal?
Dealership (in writing) told me the device was physically removed. While I was installing my parking mode wiring for my Viofo A129 Plus Duo (front and back dashcam system), I see the box, flashing lights and all... Yeah, removed ☹
Dealership is being difficult (although that might be working towards a half-a**ed "resolution"), CDS / ELOGPS support tried to start with "we don't know how it is wired in." Hahaha, yeah. So, I asked for the contact information for their engineer or the outside firm that designed the product. I then received a more firm "this unit isn't drawing power from your battery..." bull**** line. It is. It's drawing twice as much as the dashcam in parking mode is drawing. The device is supposed to be deactivated... Ha! Furthermore, he refused to give instructions for removal saying that it is a security device. Well... My car was paid for in cash, I have a strong belief that this device falls under the Federal Right To Repair law. My last message was just that... No reply yet. I'd like to take it out, but if they make it difficult, I have already contacted a law firm for a free consult (not yet performed). If left on my own to remove it, I am much more likely to share how to remove it as opposed to promising ELO/CDS that I wouldn't share the instructions if they played nice.
I am really tired of the BS. This car has other issues, it's supposed to be a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle (TCUV) and the dealership was loose on its standards.
As an aside, I set m my dashcam system for 10-minute loops and it is continuously recording so that it captures anything that might not involve a bump to the car, such as vandalism or crimes going on nearby. The first two weeks of use on another vehicle helped bust two people at fault. I sent unlisted YouTube links to the appropriate law enforcement agency showing the driver's bad behavior, a week later three dozen views. Nice, eh? It also confirmed that my daughter wasn't looking at her cell phone during an accident. Unfortunately, she allowed somebody to cut in front of her and they jammed on the brakes. Still her fault; stupid, but not criminal. Because the car is garaged and not being used much now (waiting for dealership resolutions), I have the parking mode power disconnected.
IT IS STRICTLY an inline "interrupt." Think of it like an extension cord for the OBD wiring.
Well I never mess with those systems of my subs is too much liability involved. But it's not a bad idea to have your own camera systems installed so you control all the access to it
Removing power from the device should disable it. Snip the red wire 😎
Federal Right To Repair law.
there is no such Federal law. I think Massachusetts just enacted one.
