Hey Scotty,
I recently purchased a 2014 Camry Se with 83000 miles on it. Should I have the transmission oil changed? The car is in mint condition and I'm the second owner.
I bought it for 12,500. Asking price was 13,500. Did I pay too much?? The original owner paid over 30,000....
Thanks Scotty, have a wonderful weekend...
look at the ATF fluid. If it's bright red and transparent, fairly clean, and doesn't smell burnt, then it was done recently. If not, then it's a good time.
Please read our FAQ topic, as this question gets asked several times per day.
For the ATF, listen to what Joe says.
For the price, I can find them for 8-9k in good condition in California so it was a bit on the high side but you didn't get ripped off or anything if it is in good condition you should take care of it and you said it's in mint condition so enjoy it!
The MSRP was $23,740 , in 2021 dollars that equates to about $26,000. You payed about half that. The question is, does the car have more than half it's life left? If yes, which most likely it is, your purchase was a good one.
Also, take care of the transmission because they had issues in those years with the torque converter and rough shifts etc.
If you have the 4 cylinder, you almost certainly have the crappy transmission and torque converter. Read up on this right away so you know what you are dealing with. Since it is a 14 you have a limited amount of time to get the transmission checked for free at Toyota. Problem is they probably won't be of much help. Good luck.
