I just bought a 2014 Toyota Corolla LE ECO for 9150.00. It has 116k on the ticker. Everything checked out. Engine,cvt transmission all good.
Was this a decent deal? And should I expect to get a long life out of her? I forgot to mention that it has the 1.8 motor.
Any and all advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.
IMHO, NO! ...it was not a good deal. The good news is that if the car checked out as you say - it will give you years of use if you properly maintain it. The bad news is that you overpaid for the car. I'm in the St. Louis area and there are a certain percentage of good used cars that are being sold for less than that.
I know due to the pandemic the used car prices are over inflated, but if you weren't desperate to buy, as stated, you overpaid.
Keep this in mind, that per the most recent data available, the Toyota Avalon, is the only sedan that consistently gets over 200,000K without major repairs. Your car, while usually very reliable, and while usually a very steady-eddy vehicle, is still over 16 years old. At some point it will have suspension issues. Does this car have a timing belt or chain? If it's a belt - it will have to be replaced at some point? Did you check out the spark plugs? When were ALL the fluids changed? ...including all the transmission oil, it's gasket, and its filter?
I could go on, but I think you see the picture.
The car you got is an excellent, dependable car, if properly maintained. Assuming it had been, be happy that you got such a car. HOWEVER, I still think you overpaid for the same. ....and what is worse, if something starts to go wrong with the car - such as the transmission, now you are stuck with the decision whether to put a lot of money into the car to keep it going.
Your post wasn't there when I was typing mine. I wasn't referring to you or what you posted
@oldandy Lol, good save!
Hopefully you had access to the service history and the car was well maintained. If it was, you should be able to get many more miles out of it. The engine and transmission are obviously the big items, so make sure they are serviced on a regular basis. Use quality gas.
Don't worry about how good your deal was. It's a done deal and anyone telling you that you paid too much is only going to make you feel bad. Prices can vary a lot by market.
For a Toyota like that is probably a good price if you know that it has been maintained well and if a good mechanic say's yes the car is in good shape.
It was a decent deal I'd say $7500 would be more realistic though.
