2016 Hyundai Accent Hatch Reliability

Hey Scotty! A friend of mine did not take my advice and she got a 2016 Hyundai Accent for when I advised her to get a Toyota or Honda. Her excuse was “I only paid $7,000 for this car. Toyotas were too expensive for what you get” 🤦🏻‍♂️. My only hope that this car lasts is the fact that she and her boyfriend are super religious with the maintenance. But are Hyundai Accents all that bad ? It currently has 72k miles.

The cheapest model from a manufacturer known for low quality and severe mechanical problems. What could possibly go wrong?

I hope your friend likes to walk.  She's going to be doing a lot of it with that POS.

No, they all suck. She should have gone for an older Toyota or Honda for $7 grand. The accents have always been rolling piles of junk and not well made.

Bad decision, it’s already at 72,000 miles and looks like she bought it used so the original 10 year /100,000 miles powertrain warranty will not apply anymore (it’s only good for the original owner).  Not sure how many miles she plans to put on it, but hopefully it’s not much.  Diligent maintenance will get you a little further but does not make up for poor design/engineering to begin with:  remember, quality and reliability have to be designed in from the beginning.

I would never buy that tiny Accent at all.
