So I went to the car dealership automotive to have my transmission oil changed in my 2016 Toyota Corolla that has 48,000 miles on it. I was told it was not recommended by Toyota to change transmission oil in the car. I then said according to what I have been reading it needs to be changed at least 50,000. They then told me, to stop reading off the internet that I was wrong. So my question is does my transmission oil need changed? I dont know what to now.
Never take your car to a dealership. They lie about everything. Find a good, local mechanic to do what YOU want to do and have it done.
Yes, transmission fluid wears out eventually. I would take the car somewhere else.
That's what I was thinking when the automatic there was telling me no.
Yes, I would change it now: drain and fill only (with filter change). While the range you will hear (including from Scotty) can vary from 30,000-60,000 miles, I like to personally change the transmission fluid on those conventional torque converter automatics every 40,000 miles to ensure the longest life possible.
I would take your vehicle to an honest, independent mechanic (preferably ones with experience on Japanese/Toyota’s/Honda’s) for any work that needs to be done on your vehicle. The dealership is not looking out for your best interest; they’d rather you get another Toyota product “soon” than giving you recommendation so it can last 200/300/400,000 miles.
I have never been to the dealership for any service in the last 25 years.
