2017 Honda Accord V6 Touring U0155?

On my 2017 Honda Accord V6 with 29,000 miles I installed a VCM disable device called VCM Tuner 2 as Honda has previously had problems with VCM. I did not like the idea of switching back and forth between 6 and 3 cylinders while driving and sometimes it would feel jerky when it did.

After letting the vehicle cool off for 4 hours, I installed the device which plugs its the ECT 1 sensor and the original ECT1 harness then plugs into the module. The module is also powered by the battery and is fused. I drove a few times and everything was fine and the vehicle drove much better with VCM disabled.

A few hours later I decided to plug my scanner in the vehicle just to check some live data and as soon as I plugged it into the vehicle which the engine was already on the check light came on with a U0155 "Lost communication with instrument cluster control module." I cleared the codes and restarted the vehicle while the scanner was still connected and no codes popped back up. Drove again after and no lights still.

Why would the check light pop up with this code as soon as the scanner was plugged in?

I am positive it is not related to the VCM tuner 2 module. Looks like something to do with plugging my scanner into the port?

I am using an Autel Scanner, reads ABS and some other options.

Did you try unplugging the tuner device?

no, I havent gotten a code back after clearing it. Even after the tuner was installed and I drove the vehicle there was no check light until I plugged the code reader into the port.

And literally, as soon as I plugged the scanner tool in the light popped up.

First time I ever used a code reader on it and it was just to see some live data. Other than that only the service stations plugged their computers in for state inspections.

It actually makes sense.
I'm sure the device plugs into the vehicle data bus.
Every device you plug into the data bus, changes the characteristic impedance of that bus.
Each device that goes on the bus needs to be trimmed with proper termination resistors.
I'm guessing the device either doesn't have termination resistors, or they are not set up correctly. (consult their user guide).

As soon as you plug in you scanner, the bus becomes overloaded, data signal loses coherence, and you get communication problems.

either that or the tuner can't handle having the scanner there and borks out.

Looks like the way I was plugging to tool in the vehicle does not like. I plugged it in just now this time with it off then started it. No codes popped up.

I also made sure it was fully pushed in until I heard a click. Maybe there was a loose connection earlier that I assume could be a possibility as well.

Please do not double post.  Already being addressed below:

Yeah that was an accident. I was clicking the submit button and nothing was happening so I clicked it again. Looks like a double post from that.

It obviously wouldn’t make sense to post twice one after the other if you look at the times for the post.

be patient when you submit. It's not instant especially when the site is busy.
